I used my bike mainly for commuting, trading and exploring. I love the mechanics on it. I make the cycle basket on it. And I sell similar cycle baskets too. They do not add much to the weight of the bike and are very resourceful to have.

I found it in a agglomeration of cheap second hand bicycles of an Ebay-Dealer. It needed a massive cleaning and a maintenance job. The Plastic parts of the ESGE carrier are broken, but i repaired it with cable ties. Also the frame is broken but repaired from a professional. It is a very nice old cycle and i will keep it in the original condition.

The bike goes everywhere with me, literally everywhere as it lives in the boot of my car. I own 10 restaurants in cities and towns in the centre of the UK. SO rather than suffer extortionate parking and tiresome traffic I park up on the outskirts and cycle in. Racking up plenty of short journey miles.

Name: Steve Swithin
In 1994 I took a year off, bought a lightly used Super Galaxy and a round the world airline ticket, loaded the Dawes with a tent, sleeping bag & cooking equipment. I rode around Hong Kong (tricky!), all around both North & South Islands of NZ, enjoyed cycling the islands of Fiji and Raratonga - then to California, cycling all the way over the Rocky Mountains to Jasper at the head of the Icefields Parkway. The train took me across Canada, stopping off to ride around Winnipeg and Montreal, then on to Halifax, cycling a windswept freezing (and almost deserted) Nova Scotia. I cycled about 7,000 miles in total. The Super Galaxy was my best friend for a year, being Super strong, Super comfortable and Super reliable. It got hauled on and off planes, trains, buses, boats, pick-up trucks, even a canoe! It was the trip of a lifetime, thanks to my legs, the kindness of strangers and a trusty, British built Dawes bike.
Name: phil pritchard
This is a Dawes Galaxy with 531 Super Tourist. The frame number suggests that it is 1995. Bought as a £30 wreck, I had the frame stripped, resprayed as a dark metallic green, decals (H Lloyd) & lugs lined at Mercian (Derby) - not cheap but quality.
New build (built them myself) Mavic A319 rims on XT (rear), and original Schmidt Dynamo (front) hubs, Schwalbe Marathon tyres, new Deore chainset, new XT front & rear mechs, Dura-Ace bar end shifters, new Cinelli bars & stem with Fizik black tape.
All nuts & bolts replaced with stainless as far as possible. I had to fit (new) Altus canti brakes as original, because of the (odd spacing) pivot spacing on the front forks precluded V-brakes. Tektro levers.
Name: Matt Wilson
Getting back to cycling after too many years away. The Mojave is perfect for me and my camera gear, on the road again !
Name: Michael Waldron
This is my pride and joy - a Dawes Lightning 27" frame No. MD5168 purchased Coventry 1981 and brought to New Zealand in 1983. I have just fully restore the bike. Powder coat paint job (two tone) and brand new decals. As these were unobtainable from the original sources I've re-created the graphics and had them printed on vinyl. Even the original G Stokes retailer's label is there. The only none original equipment is the Sun Tour gear mechs. I didn't like the look of the Huret units and after many years threw them out two months before deciding to restore. I could cry! Spokes, tires and handlebar tape are also new.

I've covered a distance of 778km with not flat tyre,
Cycled through dirt sometimes, mostly taken the paved route, and all kind of weather condition!
It wouldn't have been one of the best experience I've had if it wasn't for my handy bike!
The only thing was at my final stage I begin to feel numbness in the palm of my hand.
Name: Dave Moores

After a long holiday from riding, I got my bike out, cleaned it up and started riding again. This photo was taken after it had had a full strip down and rebuild service - complete with new tyres, chain, and rear cassette. It feels as good as new.
It gets ridden every week now - mostly around town, but I’ve done a few longer distance rides on it too.

I had a bike identical to this in 1971, bought from a shop in Richmond, Surrey. In 2010 I bought another one on eBay that was really tatty and restored to as new condition as could get, including a repaint by Mercian cycles and new decals. I ride it regularly on short trips in dry weather only. Its great fun to ride and it brings back a lot of memories from my early teens.

Name: George Fleming
I have two Dawes Galaxy's one new and a very early model that I love to ride, I have been a cyclist from childhood and now I am 68 years old and have owned a ridden lots of bikes over the years but to me the Dawes Galaxy is the best there is, it may not be the fastest or the most glamorous but its as tough as old boots and you can ride until your legs hurt and it still wants to go on, I also like to collect the head badges from previous years and hope you would enjoy looking at them as much as I do.

I bought my Dawes Audax second hand from a friend in the summer and it's one of the best purchases I've ever made. It's a fantastic bike for every use; I ride it for training, commuting, and touring. The picture is of me taking part in the New Forest 100 sportive on the Audax.
Name: Lodewijk Helmig
Just recently replaced chain, rear sprocket cassette, bottom bracket and brake shoes of the rear wheel. And cleaned and lubricated the index gear levers. Everything is functioning as if the bicycle is new.
The bicycle is used everyday for distances of 5 till 10 km. On weekends and holidays the bicycle is used for trips of 40 till 70 km, in Holland and abroad (till now not in the UK!).
What I like is the combination of a relatively light weight and the stiffness of the frame. I bought this Dawes bicycle because of the appearance, frame made of tubes with a small diameter and painted in a nice shining green colour.
The picture is with my granddaughter Moon, 3 years at the time the picture was taken.
Name: Colin Smith
